I am delighted to welcome you to The Buddha’s Empty Place, an online academic environment, dedicated to debating and discussing issues of current events, relating to political, social, economic, technological, artistic, and academic affairs by everyone. This online publication is written by a cross section of the American University of Afghanistan student community.

We seek commentary pieces on Afghanistan and world’s current social, political, economic, and academic affairs. These pieces should be ideally 500-700 words, and have one central point to discuss.

We’re also encouraging the conversations that take place on The Buddha’s Empty Place, and we expect them to be energetic, constructive, free-wheeling, and insightful. We, however, retain the right to review the posts before publishing, for their relevance and clarity.

It is expected from all, who are contributing to this publication, to adhere to the below guidelines:

• No attacks! Criticize the ideas not the personal figures behind them.
• Express your opinion in an academic manner, based on objective facts and empirical data, and as an academic opinion, giving equal chance of validity for the opposite opinions.
• Try to stay on-topic in your pieces, and in particular, in comments.
• Support your opinion by providing links to websites, weblogs, documents, videos, podcasts, etc.
• We appreciate your opinion by your real identification; however, we respect anonymity and allow people to post as “anonymous.”
• The commentary pieces that are submitted to publish in The Buddha’s Empty Place must not have been published anywhere else.
• No pieces, already published in The Buddha’s Empty Place, may be republished in any media by any kind of transmission facility without prior written permission.
• For academic purposes, the contents of The Buddha’s Empty Place may be referred to, by providing the complete citation.

The commentary and views in this publication are neither necessarily the ideas reflecting AUAF community as a whole nor those of the editors.
